UTM Alumni Senior Director, Associate Prof Dr Mohamad Ibrahim Mohamad officiated the second QS Bina alumni reception in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, 3 December 2016. The event organized by QS-Bina Society in collaboration with Department of Quantity Surveying, Faculty of Built Environment (FBE) UTM.
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (JPBW), Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), UTM, Johor Bahru, has once again successfully organised its 3rd monthly seminar for 2016. The talk entitled “A Cutting Edge of Development Thinking” was by Adjunct Professor Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, Chief Executive, Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) on 28th November 2016 (Monday) at the Convention Hall B12, FAB.

The Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Built Environment, UTM Johor Bahru, under the Management and Governance Course have organized a number of mini Community Social Responsibility (CSR) activities within the month of November, 2016. The idea of having a mini CSR is to provide the opportunity for each student to have more hands-on management of an activity and face-face interaction with the community. The mini CSR activities targeted varied groups of the community giving each group different experience to later share them in class presentations.
Altogether four groups were formed with between 6-7 members per group. The targeted communities are Kampung Sungai Melayu, Nusajaya; the Johor Down Syndrome Association; the Shan De Welfare Association, Johor Bahru; and the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Insan Istimewa, Johor. All communications regarding the events were made between the students and the communities involved.
On the 9th of November 2016, forty one students from the 2nd and 3rd Year, Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning Programme, Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP), Faculty of Built Environment (FAB), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru visited Batam, Indonesia. The visit is an academic requirement of the course, Planning Practice (SBEP 3243) and was led by the lecturer for the course, Dr Gobi Krishna s/o Sinniah, a senior lecturer with DURP.
20 students from Sekolah Rendah Islam Hidayah participated with Landscape Ecology Program at Gunung Pulai Forest Reserve on 18 November 2016. This outdoor lesson is organized by SBEL 1662 students and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Said from Department Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Built Environment. The students were taught ecological system of hill rainforest and its functions including headwaters and watersheds, dependency of animals on plants in a rain forest, interspecific interactions of animals and plants, and identifying plant species. The students were accompanied by three teachers who taught them sciences.
